About this lesson

Two flatmates face a hot summer day and share a watermelon. Five words (西瓜, 瓜, 甜, 切, 夏天) are taught, each with three sentences to repeat and a common mistake.

切qièto cut, to slice verb, 切西瓜 / 切肉请你剪西瓜。 ✗ · 请你切西瓜。 ✓ Use 切 for food with a knife; 剪 is for scissors.
夏天xiàtiānsummer noun, 在夏天 / 夏天很热我喜欢夏。 ✗ · 我喜欢夏天。 ✓ In spoken Chinese, say 夏天 for summer, not the single character 夏.
